Description:

The ET&D OSHA 10 Hour is introductory awareness course for electrical line construction. The course is conducted over a two days of classroom instruction. The course objective is to train trainers to enhance accident prevention, review electrical safety principles and how it relates to today’s electrical line construction industry. It’s intended to prepare workers to gain an understanding of how to identify concepts and techniques of electrically safety related work practices of line workers. The course also covers an overview of OSHA construction safety regulations with an emphasis on electric generation, transmission and distribution (1910.296 and 1926 Subpart V). Upon completion participants will receive an OSHA 10 Hour card with the ET&D Partnership logo.

Speaker Bio:

James McGowan is Director, Safety Training for Quanta Services Inc. a Houston, TX based corporation. James has over 15 years of field construction experience and 18 years of safety and training experience. James is a journeyman lineman and has worked in all aspects of the power-transmission and distribution field utilizing the hot stick, bare-hand, and rubber glove method.  

James is the Chairman of the training task team (Task Team II) for the OSHA Electrical Transmission & Distribution (ET&D) Partnership and played a role in the development and subsequent implementation of the ET&D Partnership 10-Hour OSHA course and the ET&D Partnership Supervisory Leadership Skills Outreach Training course.

James lives in Northern Kentucky with his wife of 20 years, Julia, and his 13 year old son, Aaron. James’ interests include reading, computer science, camping, and public speaking. James is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, The American Society of Training and Development and holds numerous accreditations and certifications. 

James attends the Maysville Church of the Nazarene and is working to obtain a Master’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health.

Please note that every state handles licensure and continuing education credits differently. To avoid confusion, NECA strongly recommends you check with your state authority whether they will grant these CEUs for management education programs held at NECA 2012 Las Vegas.
